So here's the deal. I have been toiling away at this for the last year or so, and trying to find new ways of talking about, supporting and advocating for male sexual abuse survivors . Trying to find ways of approaching this difficult subject that won't make survivors, their friends or families feel ashamed or broken. But here's the thing. It's a lot of work. There has literally been hundreds of hours of writing and website building, research and sharing my story and vision. Learning everything from website building to researching. It's been a journey and continues to be a journey! But there is so much more to do! Registration as a charity, volunteers to run our programs, the list is endless! But I can't keep this up whiteout your help. This is the bit where I (gulp) "just ask for help". But I don't mean doing that awful "how depressed are you??? questionnaire your GP makes you do to get a mental health plan. I mean ... ASKING YOU FOR MONEY!! I need your help to cover the ever-growing costs . But wait on, why don't you just get some of that fat mental health system cash?? The truth is, we're pretty out there as far as the mental health world is concerned. Male sexual abuse is a subject that is only at its beginning stages in Australia. There maybe ways for us to tap into the health system for cash in the future, but right now most of those ways would crush the very thing that makes us unique. Hopefully one day we'll squeeze into the health system and buts it wide open! But for now, Its up to me and you.
